The early poster/teasers of Phantom Menace re-release got me all excited. I almost forgot how disappointed I was when I saw it the first time. There was a reason why I booked my ticket early for the 3D screening of The Phantom Menace, which is out this week. And after having seen the latest trailer of Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, I am finding it hard to remember that reason. 5 Things about the Phantom Menace Trailer
which almost made me throw up
1. What’s that voice?
Who the hell in the studio went ahead and hired that voice artist to voice a Star Wars trailer? This is not High School Musical, or Hannah Montana (I don’t have many Disney examples to cite, as you’d know , I don’t watch them). Seriously, who on earth would do such a thing? Lucasfilms and Fox might just have pissed off (some more) a whole generation of Star Wars fanboys by this act.
2. Keep that Jar-Jar away.
You know why Phantom Menace was annoying? You know who is the most annoying movie character in movie history? Jar-Jar Binks. He should never feature in any of the Star Wars universe..ever. But then, it was Lucas’ decision to keep him a part of the universe. And as much as we hate him, we ‘d have to bear him. But they could have done away with Jar-Jar in the trailers at least. Wishful thinking.
3. Darth Maul and the double lightsaber
The voice pisses me off some more, by saying that Darth Maul and his double lightsaber is unfair. PISS OFF VOICE! Go back to your room and watch some Glee or something! And how dare you tell Darth Maul to wear the hood back on?
4. DROIDS, whole army of evil DROIDS.
Seriously, why is this trailer edited like this? As if this were a Mattel commercial, being plugged in so that kids can demand their parents to buy them the toy versions. Aaah.. now I see the agenda!
5. Jake Lloyd.
I hate that kid as Anakin Skywalker. His acting is just atrocious, and why would they insert his edited “Oohs” and “Aahs” into this?
There’s lots more reasons to why I absolutely despise this trailer. The tone is just too close to reducing it into a Disney movie, and it focusses around celebrations, and how cool pod racing is. No kidding! This trailer makes me want to call IMAX and ask for my money back. Almost! The only reason I am holding back to my tickets, is because I want to watch the duel between Qui Gonn Jin and Darth Maul. It’d be worth the ticket, and the 3D conversion.
