5 Reasons why ‘The Eleventh Hour’ was Geeky Awesomeness

I know I am a bit late to review this, but I guess I am just in time before the next episode airs this Saturday. I have been caught up with watching a lot of movies and concerts which I want to review as well. But how can I really not write about the much talked about, much awaited Doctor Who Series 5 – especially after we bid farewell to the much loved David Tennant as the 11th doctor. And the New Year special saw the regeneration of our favourite Doctor into Matt Smith – the dude with the huge face, humongous nose and tbh I was extremely clueless if I was going to follow it this season or not. To be more honest, I was quite prepared to dislike him in the first episode – and hence, the first episode was one not to be missed. Of course, being the internet whore that I am, I did check out every single possible leaked publicity pic, every leaked information about the new series and all that. And what was the outcome? Judging by the first episode, the new series, which no more has Russel T. Davies steering in the driving seat, but instead has Steven Moffat as the director, definitely assures us that the Doctor is in safe hands. And here’s what I loved about Episode 1. And in case I don’t keep ranting about the awesomeness, I’ll limit my words and rather let you drool over the awesome screencaps
1. The New Logo, The New Theme

Pretty much self explanatory. I liked ‘em both.

2. Prisoner Zero

Prisoner Zero would be called a Shape-Shifter in True Blood universe. Only thing different is that its original form is a slimy serpent with a really wide-stretching mouth. Seen above and below are just two of its forms, and some of its dental features. Definitely deserves a nod!

3. The Doctor Loves Blackberry

Oh yeah, he doesn’t do it only with his sonic screw-driver. He is the new age Doctor dude. He writes a virus on the mobile, he hacks into a World leaders video conference on an Acer Laptop. A little product placement is not harmful – especially when it shows that the Doctor, like many of us, now uses a smartphone with a touchscreen and uses phrases such as – download and upload. And of course, not to forget – Who The Man (as shown below). Of course, he promises never to use that phrase again. Sweet!

4. Nerdgasm – The Doctors Montage

Right there when the Doctor demands the Atraxi eye to get his sorry ass back, he reminds them of the monsters who have tried to attack the planet, and the series of his successors who have dealt with them. And just in that moment, geeks from all over the world experienced a very satisfying – Nerdgasm. Not only did Steven Moffat very cleverly created an awesome geeky moment dipped with nostalgia, but also did he establish the fact that he meant extreme business. And of course, Matt Smith emerging from behind the hologram to say – Basically, run – that pronounced one thing very clearly – the Doctor has arrived [ nothing to do with the satisfying Nerdgasm ].

5. The Brand New, Polished Tardis

Again, pretty much self explanatory.
Yes, the Eleventh Hour did have some pitfalls. But rather than being a nagging bitch, I’d rather enjoy its moments of awesomeness. The Doctor’s companion – Amy has already been well introduced in the first episode itself. But we are yet to see what Amy can bring to the table. On the other hand Matt Smith certainly has not disappointed me. And with the trailers of the future episodes indicating the return of the Daleks and the Weeping Angels, I can only wait with bated breathe for Saturday Nights.
It is certainly time to see the Doctor.
