With the second half of Doctor Who – Series 6 (which we’ll refer to as Series 6b) just a few days away from premieré with the brand new episode – Let’s Kill Hitler, we take a quick look back at the major plot points and highlights of the roller coaster experience of Series 6a. There were plenty of answers revealed about the secret of River Song, and how her story ties up with Amy and Rory. And of course, we also get to know a lot more about her relationship with the Doctor. There’s plenty more to be discussed, so hit the jump, as we quickly gear ourselves to be all prepared for Series 6b.
Of course, there’s plenty of SPOILERS on Series 6a.
The first one is quite easy and a major spoiler for those who haven’t seen it yet.
1. The Doctor dies:
The opening episode was a big face melting reveal of the Doctor being killed by an unknown astronaut – referred to as the Impossible Astronaut. Amy, Rory, River and Delaware are witnesses to this event. Seems like the Doctor did want them to be there. Nevertheless, they go back to the year is 1969, the year when man sets off for the Moon, and Nixon is in power. The Doctor, with help from Delaware’s contacts within the FBI are able to find the suit of the astronaut. But then, whoever was inside the suit, has got out of it. We get to know that it was a she, a little girl, with regenerative powers of a Timelord. [For detailed reviews of Episode 1 - go here, and for Episode 2 - go here ]
2. Silence will fall:
We are also introduced to one of the most menacing looking aliens of Doctor Who universe – the Silence, who speak in a peculiar frequency. Their faces resemble Edvard Munch’s “the Scream”, and their existence is only known to us as long as we see them. The moment we turn away, the memory of their sight is gone from our heads. And this way, they have been able to exist on Earth for quite sometime. They do keep on warning that – Silence will fall, and the exact significance of that statement is to be explored. Of course, the other burning question is that whether the Silence do play a bigger role in the Doctor’s death.
3. The story of River Song :
Oh she is a big ball of mystery. We know she was imprisoned for killing someone, which by what we’ve gathered so far, indicate that she might have killed the Doctor. By the end of the series, we get to know that River is Melody Pond, daughter of Amy and Rory. And also, that she is in a relationship with the Doctor. She refuses Rory from helping the Doctor for the final battle ( Episode – A Good Man Goes to War), as she tells that she can only appear at the very end. What’s that all about? And of course, how enigmatic are these lines that she tells the Doctor -

At least we know something. River Song is part Timelord, and she has been used as a weapon by that eye-patched lady Madam Kovarian.
4. Amy Pond – Y U NO here?
Amy Pond is literally the girl who does not make sense. By the final episode, we get to know that she hasn’t been amongst us physically throughout the series. She’s been all captivated by Madam Kovarian in a spaceship which seems like has been sponsored by Apple. Everything is so white! Amy got knocked up (by Rory or the Doctor, I donno) and she’s been pregnant all along. And the visions she’s been having of Madam Kovarian sliding a window and telling her – PUSH, is the only real thing she’s been experiencing. The Doctor knew it all, and I don’t know why he played along, even when that stupid pirate thing happened.
5. Centurion Rory – Why do you die so much?
Rory keeps dying in each and every episode. He’s been dead, been an auton, back to human after the Doctor rebooted the universe, and then under weird circumstances, been subjected to death so many times that I have lost count. But his undying love for Amy is worthy of a Victoria Cross. He suits up in his centurion gear to help the Doctor by assembling all of the Doctor’s mates, so that the Doctor can fight back against whoever took away Amy. But when did all that happen? I am all confused by the whole question of timeline. Since, these people are timelords and shit, travelling in a fucking TARDIS, its really hard to tell. Its all relative you see.
6. The second Doctor.
In one of the other story arcs introduced in Series 6a, we get to know of a doppelgänger technology which basically turns your clone into a Voldemort lookalike. LOLJK. But the best part is, that we get a double Doctor, both of them equally funny, witty, and extremely masterful. And although we did see the doppelgänger get terminated by the explosion, I do have doubts about that. It might have been that the Doctor we did see dying, might possibly be the Doppelgänger.
7. Tardis is Sexy.
Although this was a single episode, it was nonetheless very much enjoyable. We get to know the Tardis in human form, in all her female-ness, and likes to be called Sexy. She gets annoyed when the Doctor pushes to open the door, even when it clearly instructs “Pull to Open”. And of course, the Doctor and Sexy collaborate to create their own mini TARDIS.
