New Trailer for The Amazing Spiderman is Bloody Brilliant [Review]

by Sujoy on February 7, 2012

The Amazing Spiderman Trailer GIF - Andrew Garfield

The first teaser trailer was a big disappointment, as the only bit of Spidey footage we got, was a reflection on a skyscraper’s glass window. With Sony hell-bent on correcting that first mistake, the newly released Amazing Spiderman trailer, looks like a step in the right direction. The trailer is here, embedded after the jump. And I’ve got a few good things to say about it as well.

First the video; here it is: The New Amazing Spiderman trailer.

Now for the quick review:

#1. The trailer sets out a few things straight. Peter Parker has daddy issues, and Curt Connors, Ben Parker – all seem to represent  certain aspects of that missing father figure in Parker’s life. And there are also enough hints about his growing relationship with Gwen Stacy.

#2. On the action bit, I must say, that I’m well chuffed by the large scale action set pieces and, am definitely looking forward to experience it on the large screen. Seeing The Lizard wreaking havoc across Manhattan on a mammoth scale, with skyscrapers reduced to rubble – now that’s what we’re talking about. And then, Spidey’s got enough swinging footage here, which never fails to get our adrenaline pumping.

#3. Most importantly, Andrew Garfield does not seem like struggling to find his own place, or being burdened under the shadow of Tobey Maguire – probably because the last Spidey movie was one of the worst ones. But then, credit where credit’s due. Garfield’s version of Parker sets the right tone between confused, nerdy, troubled, and cocky. While I can never say anything negative about the lovely Emma Stone, it is Rhys Ifans’ crazy Lizard which looks the most enticing dish, ready to chew up the screen space.
